Inverness Drive Slope & Roadway Restoration
City of La Canada Flintridge
The project involved the slope and roadway restoration of Inverness Drive in the City of La Cañada Flintridge. Inverness Drive is a residential street that connects hillside residents into the City. Intense rains caused two sections of roadway to fall away leaving them impassable by vehicles. Hall & Foreman worked extensively with the City to conduct Community meetings to keep residents informed on project progress. For this project, Hall & Foreman put together a strong team consisting of engineering, surveying, investigative staff, geotechnical, geostructural, and laser scanning survey experts. In order to be successful with this project, the team suggested using high definition laser scanning (HDS) services as an alternative and unique way to survey the slope and roadway damage.
At the beginning of the project, two design solutions were considered: Mechanically Stabilized Earth Slope Repair and Soldier Pile Retaining Wall Repair. Laser scanned data and software allowed the team to obtain accurate cross-sections at any location, as necessary, to assist in the selection of the design solution and the design itself. The selected design solution, with the City and Community’s input and approval, was the Mechanically Stabilized Earth Slope Repair.
