La Brea Avenue Phase I

Street Improvements on La Brea Avenue (Phase I)

City of Inglewood

The first phase of this improvement project involved 3,200 linear feet (approx. 0.6 miles) in downtown Inglewood between Florence Avenue and Hillcrest Boulevard. The overall project includes one and a half miles of street removal and reconstruction of curb and gutter, medians, pavement, sidewalks, parkway trees, and irrigation.

The project involved removal of two sets of buried railroad tracks. Ground penetrating radar was used to verify limits of railroad tracks and subsurface concrete pavement which was the original roadway surface.

For the improvements, traffic detector pucks were incorporated into the traffic signal design and Duratherm decorative pavement was used at all major intersection crosswalks. A five-way intersection was realigned to a three-way intersection with reversing curve to provide better traffic flow through this intersection.
